FOR our June meeting, 38 members went to Eckington Manor Cookery School for a ‘cook once, eat twice’ cooking demonstration.
Chef Paul Bough demonstrated how to cook beef in red wine with prunes and dark chocolate. He then used half of the cooked meal to create a red wine beef and parmesan cobbler, thus demonstrating how to use the same basic recipe to create two different meals.
While he was demonstrating, members were served with dishes of both meals. After a short break (to replenish drinks and look round the wellequipped shop), he created two Thai chicken dishes which once again everyone had an ample dish of to taste.
All through the evening he gave lots of handy tips on how to handle and sharpen knives, what to look for when choosing cuts of beef and how to chop and prepare vegetables safely.
At the end of the evening all the members, feeling very full, agreed that they had had a very enjoyable and informative time.
