BADSEY WI
8:00am Tuesday 24th April 2012 in A-C
IN true fashion Badsey WI has started off a busy year with a visit to the theatre to see South Pacific.
We went to the group meeting at Ashton-under- Hill where we heard about underwear and how it should fit, etc.
Our art classes have resumed and a new embroidery course under the guidance of Jane Bays is under way.
Our walking group will now be on a Tuesday evening instead of Saturday afternoons.
Our skittles team has so far won four of its five matches in the county tournament with one game left to play to determine if we go through to the semifinals, though our final match sees us playing a very strong team from Hampton.
A visit to Felix Dennis’s garden is planned for June and a five-day holiday to Cumbria in November.
We also hope to be able to have a day at Eckington Manor Cookery School and we are going to celebrate our 85th year with a special birthday luncheon in September.
The 2012 WI resolution to be put before the Government is on the issue of training and employing more midwives and this will be finally discussed and voted on at the Albert Hall in June/July.
We have been invited to join other WIs on outings to the Back-to-Back Houses in Birmingham, a visit to the Lord Leycester Hospital – which in fact is not a hospital but a lovely house and gardens – and a visit to the Avoncroft museum. Other outing/visits have yet to be arranged by our own WI. County has managed to arrange for Mary Berry to talk and demonstrate for us at Sixways rugby stadium in Worcester later in the year.
On May 9 we will be discussing the national resolution and voting on it ready for our decision to be taken forward to the Albert Hall. The remainder of the evening will be social time with a tombola to help raise money for our birthday celebrations and other items. In June we will be having our garden meeting at the home of Marianne and Chris Beddis in Blackminster.
Anyone is welcome to come along to any of our meetings which are held in the Remembrance Hall and begin at 7.15pm on the second Wednesday of each month.
You can be sure of a warm welcome and an interesting evening.
