BIDFORD GARDENING SOCIETY

AT our June meeting, three Ardens Grafton members of the society opened their contrasting gardens for viewing by the 46 members who turned out.

Pat Pillings’ garden at Springwood is a delightful informal garden, taking advantage of a steep slope, with a wide variety of plants and a careful blend of formal shapes and informal flowering plants.

Frances Freeman’s garden is extensive and planted in a countryside style, with a variety of specialist trees and established shrubs and roses.

Yvonne Swift’s garden provided another contrast , a relatively new garden built on the site of a farmyard, with mellow stone walls enclosing a formal area. Water loving plants are bedded through a gravel garden and hard terracing holds a wide range of pot gardens.

Several days’ work had gone into the preparation of each garden into show condition and members had a very enjoyable evening.

The July 19 meeting is Getting to Grips with Pests and Diseases and the following week there is a day visit to the RHS Wisley Gardens. Further details from Annette Haynes on 01789 268974.
