WE were pleased to welcome visitor Reg Kimberley, a retired service engineer, to our meeting on Thursday, April 17. He had been recommended to come along by the son of our President, Jim Cox.

Our speakers this week were Derek and Sue Francis of the shop at Malvern, who delighted us with a slide show and commentary of their Trek to the Lost World. They described their trek through the wilds of Venezuela, past the amazing Angel Falls and an abandoned aircraft that had crashed landed in the jungle, as well as the famous city of El Dorado, which Sue said was a dump!

Their slides showed incredible views, cliffs, waterfalls, wildlife, rivers and even rivers of clouds. Their accommodation was somewhat primitive at times and although Sue rated most of it as Minus 5 star, they nevertheless seemed to enjoy the thrills of sleeping in hammocks.

Derek and Sue have travelled every continent of the world extensively and given that Derek is aged 90 years, their globe-trotting puts us youngsters to shame. That said, I couldn’t help chuckling at their inability to find our club easily, despite having the use of a Satnav. Perhaps Evesham should be added to the list of places to visit before you die!

Cliff Blackborrow thanked Sue and Derek, saying the slides were amazing and that the interaction between them added to the quality of their presentation.

This week we look forward to a presentation by Dennis Halliday and then on May 1 we have our own version of Twenty Questions hosted by Bob Young.

We meet every Thursday at 10am at the Ecgwins Club in Evesham.
