Pebworth WI

MEMBERS discovered just how much times had changed for women when we listened to the story of the Victorian philanderer Charles Ward – a locally- based gentleman, a magistrate and the owner of Clopton House in Stratford. Mr Ward became an outcast from polite Warwickshire society because of his sexual exploits and his endless court cases. This tale of Victorian hypocrisy was told by Mairi MacDonald who had trawled the records, building up a picture of a disreputable cad!

Our skittles team is having a very successful season, particularly in the county competition and a social skittles evening at the Masons Arms, Pebworth, revealed more talent in the wings.

Members were reminded of the annual litter pick in the village on the following Saturday, to sign up for “Let’s get Active” (our WI’s celebration of the Olympics) and to buy tickets for our bridge tournament in April.

The draw for the Denman bursary was won by Elaine Jeffrey and the competition for a photo of “a man who makes you go weak at the knees“ was won by Brenda Whittingham.
