OUR May meeting was held at St Wulstan Hall on Thursday, May 31. The sad news was announced that chairman, Mike Abbey, had resigned, as he has left the district. The members and committee thanked him in his absence and wished him well for the future. Hywel Connell has agreed to step in until a new chairman can be elected.
Our speaker was Carol Smith talking about the Tree of Life Garden at St Richard’s Hospice. Pershore College staff and students were also involved with the work at all stages. The garden was designed and planted for the Malvern Spring Garden show, which in itself is a mighty task. It was then removed and installed at the hospice. We were taken through all the steps involved right from the initial consultation up to the opening at St Richard’s. The garden itself is planted in a dip in the ground with a central stainless steel tree bearing leaves inscribed with the names of loved ones. There is a patio area with seating and trees and shrubs representing the Chinese zodiac.
The next meeting is on June 28 at 7.30 in St Wulstan Hall.
The speaker will be Duncan Coombs talking about A Visit to Tibet and its Plants.
