THE Worcestershire Group of the Hardy Plant Society hosted a lively, humorous talk by friends Jennifer Harmer, the HPS historian and Sue Ward, a self-taught artist, called A Rainbow of Plants and People.
The speakers entertained us with digital slides of some of their favourite hardy plants with descriptions of their endearing features such as colour, habit and where they grow best. This was accompanied by information and entertaining tales of the gardeners who had found or bred them, and ultimately, who had plants named after them. One such was plants-woman, Amy Doncaster, quite a fierce lady ,whose forthcoming approach, would lead to gardeners toiling away to abandon their jobs and shin up trees to hide until she had passed.
Our next meeting is held at Crowle Parish Hall, Church Road, Crowle, WR7 4AZ near Worcester; on Saturday, May 17 from 2pm. Entry is £3 for visitors.
