I WRITE with reference to the recent article ‘New call for crossing on danger road’ and subsequent correspondence in the Evesham Journal.
Hopefully the young man injured, will make a full recovery.
I am extremely grateful to Cllr John Smith for his continued support in the matter of a crossing on Davies Road.
It might surprise your readers to learn that way back in March 2010, a survey was carried out on Davies Road by the county council, at the request of local councillors.
The scheme was scored and was placed third in the priority table at the time.
Since then, Cllr Smith, myself, and a number of other councillors have repeatedly asked for the crossing to be installed.
We have also tried to raise funding from developers’ 106 contributions and new homes bonus money.
New homes bonus money cannot be used for a new crossing as crossings are the responsibility of the County Council.
A speed camera sited in Davies Road will help but we still desperately need a crossing.
May I thank all those who are contributing and continuing to push for this crossing through letters to the Evesham Journal, Facebook and any other means.
Cllr Smith and I, will continue to be proactive.
The crossing must be built before the County Council is forced to be reactive, after someone else gets hurt.
ANDREW DYKE Evesham town and district councillor – Little Hampton ward
