On March 27 in the Evesham Journal a lady was criticising the railings to the footpath on the new Abbey Bridge.
It was stated that the railings were too far apart and that a child could slip through them and fall in the river.
Having seen these railings, albeit from the road, they appear to be horizontal gaps, in which case a child would have to climb over or crawl under to get access to the river.
One wonders if this lady has not realised that grown-ups are supposed to be responsible for children in their care.
Would she let her child run around free when she reaches Waterside or even walking down Abbey Road? I don't think so.
The solution is to have the child walking on the side away from the railings, i.e. near the road.
In days gone by, when our grandson was small, he was a terror for dashing off at a whim. We got used to this, so when we took him to London as a treat we put a lead on him, tied to his wrist. He still had some freedom, but he was safe.
