WHEN details of the Evesham bridge replacement were first publicised it clearly stated that there would be a dedicated cycle lane in the southbound direction. No such lane exists.
The Hochtief contract also included a requirement to improve the traffic flow at the south end of the bridge. Traffic flow is, however, worse than ever.
A right-turn light is present on three roads, but a right turn into Waterside is more difficult than ever.
That situation could be solved very easily by incorporating a short delay to the green light in the southbound direction to allow the few vehicles turning right to do so before traffic sets off from the bridge.
However, a thorough reassessment of traffic flow in Evesham is overdue.
I would propose reversing the Oat Street and Swan Lane one-way flow and allowing car-only two-way travel on Mill Street. Large vehicles could still use Workman Bridge and the reduced one-way system for deliveries.
