OUR new bridge, when approached from town, looks like a stretch of the M42 with its galvanised railings replacing the wrought-iron design of its predecessor.

It is a design which is completely at odds with the beauty of the Abbey and Almonry.

When approaching from the south there are now two lovely signs showing a maximum vehicle weight limit of 7.5 tonnes.

Isn't this exactly the limit imposed on the old bridge before we spent all of that money?

Conclusion – the old bridge was stronger at 79 years old, just before the 2007 floods after which the weight limit was imposed, than our spanking new creation.
