"EVERY single penny of net profit will be ploughed back into the local community."
So said the organiser of a local festival in last week's Journal.
Such sentiments are understandable, maybe even laudable, but desperately sad.
Why? Because in this affluent community, situated in one of the wealthiest parts of Britain, itself one of the richest countries in the world, all proceeds of the festival are being kept by the community itself.
There are alternatives. There are other parts of the world. Charity may well begin at home but it certainly shouldn't stay there. Very sad.
