YOUR concerned parental carer (Journal, August 14) may be right when he says that he understands the need for cutbacks, but understanding must end there.

A civilised community cannot be understood when it disproportionally deprives its most vulnerable members.

The county council is making these cuts at the behest of central government, who consistently refuse to place an equitable financial burden upon the extremely well-off – particularly those who created the crisis yet don’t suffer from austerity.

Obliging Evesham’s disabled to leave their community, friends and support network to travel to Pershore mocks the “localism” mantra they also champion. It is neither local nor an example of appropriate care.

If central government and their local political supporters allow this they will show a callous disregard for our vulnerable residents.

Meanwhile, a decade’s debacle of wrongful war in the cash sink-holes of Iraq and Afghanistan continues to divert money from local communities while adding the responsibility for young, disabled soldiers.
