A FEW weeks ago you published a letter from Richard Thomson, in which he decried the state of the pavements in the centre of Evesham, especially in the area of the Allee de Dreux. Mr Thomson called on the county council, as the responsible authority, to use some of the money paid by Hotchief as penalty for the delay in finishing the Abbey Road Bridge to make good the aforesaid pavements. His letter was met with a thundering silence by the county council, despite the fact that the cabinet member responsible for these matters is a local councillor.

Two weeks ago, David Way wrote supporting Richard Thomson's argument, yet still not one officer or councillor has bothered to reply. Both Mr Thomson and Mr Way are on the committee of the Evesham Civic Society, and give of their time and energies voluntarily to try to improve aspects of our town. They, and we as residents of Evesham, deserve better than to be ignored in this manner. I urge Councillor Smith, the cabinet member responsible, to use the letters page of this newspaper to give the two gentlemen mentioned above the reply they deserve. Failure to do so will only convince more people that the mistakes made over the Abbey Bridge debacle have not been recognised and further reinforce the view that our elected councillors, once having been elected, consider the views of others to be of little importance. Such a state of affairs is very bad for local democracy, so can we please have answers to the points raised by previous writers.
