AS somebody who does not follow cycling in a great way, I thought it would be a great opportunity to enlighten my ignorance of the sport by watching the Tour of Britain go through Evesham.

I stood and listened to the gentlemen in the tower on the High Street hype everyone up, telling us how fast these athletes were going to fly past us and not to get in their way as we would not want Evesham on the map as place where a cyclist had had an accident.

That was as far as his expertise in cycling seem to go.

I was stunned when he asked if there was anyone who knew anything about the sport who could enlighten him about what was going on.

Unfortunately, nobody did and therefore these guys rode straight through the town and unless you were an expert you did not have a clue who was who.

When you have something as prestigious as this happening in your town the least you would expect is someone who knows what they are talking about.
