THIS is a letter I have sent to local councillors:

The upper end of Evesham High Street: three schools, one old people's complex, two old people's housing blocks, one church, Ecgwin's club, a popular public house, a busy train station and an even busier post office.

As a mother of two children who attend schools in the High Street area, I feel I must appeal to you to take on board the need for safe crossing facilities in the High Street.

My youngest child attends St Mary's School and every morning and afternoon we quite literally take our life into our hands trying to cross that road.

You have to do it in two stages, which leaves you stood in the middle of the road with cars whizzing past you while you try to get to the other side.

It is just a matter of time before a child gets injured or God forbid, killed.

The cars do not stop. I know they should, but they don't.

Children run quickly across to get to the other side safely – the older children think it's a game and think it's funny – It scares me.

Yes, there is a lollipop man farther down the road, but we still have to get across Rynal Street with cars turning into that road from two directions and approaching the junction from a different direction.

In any event, half an hour, twice a day for five days during term time is not enough, this road is a danger to pedestrians 24/7.

All I'm asking for is speed bumps – by the Railway Hotel, by the Catholic church and by Yates Court.

This simple solution will make the High Street a safer place to cross.
