CONGRATULATIONS to Wychavon District Council for agreeing two new solar farms in the Vale, especially as they are on poor agricultural land.

The Vale’s good soil continues to produce food for the nation, and now our less good ground will be producing more and more energy.

Solar expert Professor Keith Barnham in his Evesham talk on November 7 organised by Transition Evesham Vale made a strong case for us being able to produce over 75 per cent of the energy we need as a nation from solar and wind power.

We would then reduce the use of fossil fuels which even the presidents of the US and China have now agreed is essential, and also any need for nuclear power, a very expensive and dangerous way of producing energy.

A next step now would be to ensure that all the homes being built in the Vale are fully insulated, include all other energy-saving measures and have solar panels installed on the roof.

Countries like Denmark and Germany have been doing this for years, and in the medium to long-term the owners of these houses save far more than these measures cost, as well as reducing carbon emissions.

What’s not to like?
