STRANGE things are happening down on the Swamp in Pershore (ak.a Avon Meadows Wetlands).

They are building another plastic promenade – this time a black one which promises to be as slippery as all the other structures that have been built there. It can hardly be called beautiful.

As we watch this ugly black caterpillar slowly crawl along the top of the Swamp we wonder what other joys and excitements are coming our way. A pier, perhaps? An amusement arcade? Forget the crazy golf – it’s all crazy enough already.

And all so that more people are attracted to this grand amenity – will there be room for all of us?

Before these meadows were municipalised we had, from time to time, to dodge the detritus of cows and sheep – nowadays we also have dogs and bull to contend with, and the latter are sadly there all the time.

Heigh ho!
