WE now realise that the traffic management during the Abbey Bridge reconstruction at Evesham was brilliant.

Compared, that is, with the secretive closure of the Evesham to Teddington A46 every night for three weeks from December 4.

Why secretive? Well, there is nothing about it on Worcestershire County Council or Elgin websites. There are only signs at the sides of the roundabouts, and they are very easy to miss when looking out for traffic.

There is information about the closure of the Ashton to Beckford road with the diverted route along the A46, which itself is closed at night, of course.

The resurfacing seems to be a luxury, and such work is normally be carried out without complete closure. Why not in this case?

The diversion is long and very poorly signed, with in some cases arrows pointing two ways.

Can we beg or persuade the secretive and autocratic Highways Agency not to do this sort of thing in future?
