I WRITE with concern in regard to the new car park surface laid recently at the Bretforton sports club.

As a regular visitor to close family in the village, we have used the playground, field and club for many years.

On New Year's Eve we attempted to use the sports club however the new surface recently laid, was a massive issue for me as a wheelchair user.

The surface is very poor, was very wet even though there had been no rain for a few days... And my wheelchair literally started to sink in to the surface with likeness to sinking sand...

Luckily I was not on my own and my son came out from the club and had to push me with some speed through the surface to prevent my wheels getting stuck.

Had I been on my own, without a phone, I would have had to wait for some good samaritan to help me... On a cold New Year's Eve this could have been a while!

The mess from the clay like car park on my wheelchair and tyres and my clothing was awful, including a brand new coat which is now covered on the sleeves and back.

This car park is used by prams, bicycles, cars and pedestrians and I fear more people will have issues with it in the future.

Surely a tarmac surface would have been more adequate.

The carpet in the club house also suffered not only from the mess from my wheels but from other customers shoes, the substance was traipsed all over, which in turn will lead to the carpet wearing out sooner and needing replacing as well as the cost of extra cleaning... More expense for this little club.

One can only imagine the mess when there are football tournaments being held.
