COULD I please urge as many people as possible to write or email Wychavon District Council to object to the proposed Station Road development unless sufficient reservation is included to allow for the eventual construction of a relief road from Wyre Road to the B4084 north of Pershore.

I am very surprised that Worcestershire County Council does not seem to have made a comment.

This is most strange since they went to the trouble and expense of commissioning the Pershore Corridor Study in 1992, which included a public exhibition, questionnaire and, presumably, some sort of report (although I never saw one published).

Three alternative solutions to Pershore’s traffic problems were offered. Of these, the “Strategy A Major Single Route Bypass (Green Route)” has in fact been partly completed by the construction of the Chadbury Twyford link, the Wyre Piddle bypass and the switch of trunk route to the new A44.

The railway bridge east of Pinvin has been much discussed but (inexplicably) never included as a requirement in subsequent planning applications or developments.

However, there is still hope provided the present application is amended to allow the final stage of a proper bypass route (not a residential “rat run”) to be constructed at a future date.

Pershore has suffered with severe traffic problems for decades hence the above study.

Despite the change to the new A44, things have only become worse.

There are especially severe congestion problems at both ends of Station Road, with long queues for the Pinvin traffic lights and horrendous queues at the Worcester Road junction.

That new housing, especially affordable homes for local residents, is required is undoubtedly agreed by most local residents.

However, it can only add to traffic problems, and both Wychavon and Worcestershire councils must wake up to the present crisis before it is too late.
