WITH reference to your article 'Speeders dismay at underhand tactics' (February 26).

I have, this morning, received a summons for speeding on Worcester Road.

My speed, as I reached the 50mph signs, was 35mph as clocked by the Safer Roads Partnership van.

I, along with other drivers who have also been summoned for speeding, was gradually accelerating to enter the 50mph area some 30 or 40 metres away.

Technically, I have exceeded the speed limit and accept the forthcoming fine and points.

However, I do object to the police comment that this check is carried out for "safety reasons".

This is not a built-up area and is far away from the school and shops where speeding is most certainly extremely dangerous.

Once again the police do very little to enhance their relationship with the public.

Scan the pages of the Journal and you will see numerous accounts of burglaries, robberies, street violence, vandalism and other crimes that demand police attention.

I have to wonder where police chiefs' priorities lie.
