I HAVE read with much interest over the past few weeks the 'furore' over the removal of the plain trees in Broad Street, Pershore.

I have many hundreds of trees on my land and hate to see any of them cut down; however I would not want a tree six feet from my house or in front of my bedroom window.

As a Pershore man in my eighties I can recall this same argument thirty or forty years ago, when the last trees were cut down and replaced with the present trees.

To me the answer is simple all but costly, remove the existing trees, reduce the width of the pavement on which the trees are standing, increase the width of the central parking reservation and form a central island down the centre of the car park by two metres wide and plant six or eight trees down the centre which can be allowed to grow to their full maturity to the enjoyment of the houses both sides of Broad Street and the street itself.

Of course there will be moans from the car parkers about the leaves, so what, wash the car off when you get home after all you are only allowed to park for two hours anyway.
