I MUST take issue with Lance Perkins in his letter regarding the positioning of mobile speed cameras and the incidence of local burglaries (March 12).
Mr Perkins clearly wishes to suggest that the police are being diverted from tackling burglaries and other criminal activity by their attention to catching speeding motorists.
I fail to see any connection whatsoever, and if Mr Perkins believes that the resources devoted to one mobile camera jeopardises detection rates, let alone can prevent crime, then not only is his logic severely flawed, but his understanding of police work is sadly lacking.
With reducing resources, the police have a difficult job to do, and in my view do it well.
They can well do without silly insinuations like this, which frankly cloud and confuse the serious point Mr Perkins might have been trying to make... if there was one.
