THANK you for publishing the thoughtful letter by Janet Southern about the thorny issue of cycling on pavements. It is, of course, illegal, but many people are reluctant to cycle on the roads.

Cycle Evesham Vale is a recently formed group representing and promoting all aspects of cycling in the Vale of Evesham.

We would encourage all cyclists to ride safely and responsibly, showing courtesy and consideration when sharing the space with other road users and pedestrians.

We are planning to provide adult cycle training to help people to cycle with confidence and in safety on the roads in and around Evesham.

Currently, most children are offered Bikeability training at school through Worcestershire County Council, and this develops their competence and confidence when cycling on the road.

We are also working hard to get better infrastructure for cycling in the Vale, and to map out a network of safe cycling routes in and around the town.

The Evesham Town Plan sets out some clear objectives to develop the area for cycling, and there are moves at both county and national level to create a more cycle-friendly environment.
