OTHERS have already reported on the new ugly estates engulfing Honeybourne.
I am sorry to report further mindless vandalism.
The latest action relates to the row of mature trees (flowering cherry and rowan) in the wide grassy verge along Weston Road that have been felled.
I tried to save the trees, but the latest reason for their destruction given by Taylor Wimpey, who are building the Fair Acres estate, was to enable machinery access to dig a trench for a new large rainwater drain pipe. This pipe could easily have been re-routed and the trees saved.
Later a 2m wide (7ft) concrete or tarmac path will be laid over the grass verge for pedestrian traffic from the Fair Acres going north on Weston Road.
A new path will be required, but it should be in keeping with the village where the majority paths are about 1m.
The loss of trees has blighted the village, and the new path will add to this.
In addition, I suspect the visual signal of such a wide open road will encourage more speeding along Weston Road.
