With regard to Gerry O'Donnell's letter (Journal, April 2), I was at that meeting. It was a very good presentation, but a vision is all that it is; nobody will invest in the middle of this town while it is in the state that it is in.

Gerry says Evesham has been loaned to us. Rubbish. It was always ours, but it's been taken away from us by the likes of planning and highways.

It used to be a great place to live; it was prosperous; it was fun to live here.

I know things have to change, but not for the worst.

With all the new homes that are proposed there will be nothing left to leave to our children.

You will not save this town by surrounding it with buildings; we need the meadows and the riverside walks, not concrete.

This town needs its history and its heritage, but it cannot survive on Simon De Montfort alone; another vision is needed.

We need a High Street to be proud of, a Bridge Street to be proud of, a Market Square to be proud of, and a town to have pride in.
