WHEN will both Wychavon and Evesham town councillors take their heads out from their backsides, open their eyes, and address the major problems regarding Evesham town centre.

It is filthy!

Cigarette butts and rubbish are strewn all over the Crown Court Yard in such quantities that you can actually smell stale tobacco smoke before you reach the area, discarded chewing gum trod into the footpaths all through the town centre.

The town square is almost a hazard to walk over, with undulating and unsafe block paving sometimes covered in oil from ill-maintained vehicles and pigeon droppings another mess to be negotiated on your walk.

There is a beautiful display of flowers in the park by the bell tower, but this floral display is marred by discarded bottles, cans and food containers carelessly thrown away by late-night park visitors.

The other morning the war memorial path was a hazard, with broken glass strewn all around.

The once popular shopping area of Port Street has also declined to a unsightly and filthy tip.

Despite much public complaining it has taken over three years for the councillors to take any effective action in the Workman Gardens.

Traffic management in the town is a total farce, having been ill-conceived by those who supposedly know better.

Little consideration was given to local opinion in the building of the new bridge, and look at what an eyesore we have ended up with – a concrete monstrosity that was very, very late in completion.

One must consider both the town centre enhancement and the bridge replacement as expensive missed opportunities in improving the image of Evesham.
