I FIND it hard to believe that CALA Homes are proposing to build houses on a known flood risk zone in Blockley.
In 2007 the whole of this site was turned into a series of lakes, with the Draycott Road becoming a rushing torrent.
It is clear that, in a similar situation, any new housing would be in grave danger of flood damage. Covering so much of the area in concrete would greatly exacerbate the problem as there would be less opportunity for the water to be absorbed, and the danger to existing properties nearby would be increased.
Is it not time that developers learned the lesson already clear to insurance companies – if you build on a flood-risk zone you must take the consequences!
