Why no bunting?

THE Jubilee is over and some of us in Pershore feel let down in that little or no effort was made to make the streets cheerful with bunting. A reason I heard was health and safety, but this is total nonsense! Take Little Comberton – for the street market the village was ablaze with colour from tree to tree. We have ample trees in Broad Street (and elsewhere) but only the Angel seemed willing to put out bunting and balloons. Why?

At Christmas we are proud of our coloured lights in Pershore – and likewise the purple balloons for the Plum Festival. But for the Jubilee why wasn’t the town festooned with red, white and blue balloons?

I’m sure that I am not the only one to feel the lack of Jubilee colour in our beloved town. Thank goodness the ladies of the Pershore Town Choir sported brilliant red, white and blue scarves when they sang over the weekend. We needed that uplift.

There was no bunting in Evesham either, very disappointing. In contrast look at Alcester, which was a blaze of red white and blue, and now has the added red and white flags of St George to support our national football team. It looks superb and makes me smile every time I drive through their lovely town. Come on Evesham and Pershore, why can't you do the same?!
