Your say on cuts
9:00am Friday 22nd June 2012 in Letters
YOUR readers may not be aware of it but, due to the Government’s proposed cut-backs, Worcestershire County Council is holding consultation events on their plans on how care packages are to be funded and implemented.
If you are a carer of an elderly relative or have children who are now young adults with disabilities, whether physical, learning disability or mental health difficulties, you should make every effort to attend these events, because you could be in the position of having to pay substantial amounts towards the cost of their care. Plus, in the case of those living independently in the community with support such as Home Care the council may suggest it may be a cheaper option for them that the client should instead be living in a community home type situation with other residents.
Many of the issues raised at the meeting I attended I found very concerning and I would strongly advise everyone to check out the details of these changes on the county’s website.
Another thing that concerned me was the location of the events themselves. There were no events planned at all in south Worcestershire.
Surely Pershore and Evesham are just as important as Kidderminster and Redditch?
The consultation ends on the July 18 and the next available meeting for people from south Worcestershire will be at Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club, Worcester, on June 26, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.
Difficult place to get to, I know, but try to be there.
Try to be there because a lot of these issues would be a concern for many of South Worcestershire’s rural residents, many of whom are elderly.
Whether you like it or or not, these cuts are coming, so it’s no use moaning afterwards.
