NOBODY wants to see large housing developments in Evesham, but the headlines last week about the Virgin Mary sounded like someone clutching at straws.
The Journal’s ‘Pledge to You’ on this page did not feel particularly ‘balanced’ when the Comment column described a claimed vision made 1,300 years ago as a “scene of mystical vision” thereby attempting to confirm that the headline had some factual basis.
Even in the case of Eof, if something had been revealed to a certain person, and not to any other, then it is a revelation to that person only, to everyone else it is just hearsay.
If it was an important historical site, surely it would have been designated as such by English Heritage.
Ironically the second Comments article, chancel repairs liability was dismissed as “archaic”.
So do we follow every religious dogma or not, or maybe we should just pick and choose the bits we like, as usual.
