AN Evesham woman has spoken of her upset when she found her and her neighbour's homes had been ransacked by burglars.

And Judy Dobbins, 67, says she wants the thieves who stole jewellery in the burglaries to be brought to justice.

Mrs Dobbins said she went out on a weekend trip and returned on Sunday evening at about 10pm, to discover thieves had broken in through a patio door window, then moved on to her neighbours property.

The 67-year-old said: "When I arrived I knew something had happened, because the lights were on.

"It is the feeling of your privacy being invaded.

"We waited for the police to arrive - they found windows smashed, all the drawers were searched, the place was ransacked.

"They took jewellery, my necklaces, worth hundreds.

"They moved on to my neighbour and did the same, stealing money from her.

"It is very worrying."

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "West Mercia Police received a report of two burglary’s taking place from properties in the Hampton area of Evesham.

"Police were informed of the burglaries at approximately 10:20pm of 5 March.

"It is believed that the burglaries took place before 10pm, one property was entered via a window and the second via a rear door. "

West Mercia Police also issued a message raising awareness on how people can keep their homes safe.

Police say that although most victims of burglary are concerned that they have been specifically targeted or watched for a period of time prior to their burglary, the truth is often the opposite.

Burglars are said to choose homes that have little or no obvious security, appear unoccupied and have easy access to the side and rear which provide them with the chance to gain entry without being seen or heard.
