A SCOUT group has been handed a funding boost to its bid to pay for a disabled access ramp.

The 1st Pershore Scout Group has been awarded £1,000 as one of the community champions of the month for Persimmon Homes South Midlands.

The scout group recently built a new hut in Pershore, having already raised over £6,000 to get the disabled access ramp built to specification.

Persimmon’s donation will mean that the group are able to buy and fit the ramp.

Hayley Tomkins from Pershore Scout Group, said: “Persimmon’s generous donation is sure to help us out immensely as we are going to purchase our new disabled access ramp.

“The scout hut has gone from strength to strength in recent times and we’re so pleased that this can continue.

“We have a few disabled children and parents helpers on our waiting list that would like to attend our groups and we cannot get them in the building at the moment, so this kind donation is really helpful.”

Carol Selway, head of sales for Persimmon Homes South Midlands, said: “1st Pershore Scout Group is a social hub for young people in the region and we’re so thrilled to be able to help out with their new premises.

“The group has already worked hard to raise a significant amount for the disabled access ramp and we’re pleased to be able to help complete their fundraising.

“Our scheme gives charities and community groups from across Worcestershire the chance to apply for up to £1,000 of funding.

"It has been a hugely successful initiative which has allowed us to support more than 20 good causes already.
