DOZENS of plastic ducks took to the water to help raise hundreds for a community carnival.

The Pershore Carnival Duck Race took place on Sunday, April 9, and raised around £900 for the 'World of Music' themed event in May.

George Williams Winnall, aged two, from Drakes Broughton, had the winning duck and was presented with a £100 prize.

In second place was Oscar Bradley, aged 15-months, who scooped a £75 prize, while Chloe the dog, from Fladbury, won third place and £25.

Colin Shepherd, chairman of Pershore Carnival, said: "The money raised will go a long way towards giving the people of Pershore a great day out on Bank Holiday Monday."

The prizes were sponsored by Hill View Ducks, in Cropthorne, Pershore and District Sports and Social Club, and Pershore Carnival.

Mr Shepherd added: "I would like to thank everyone that came and supported the duck race, Pershore Football Club for hosting us, Hill View Ducks, Cropthorne and Pershore and District Sports and Social Club for their generous sponsorship, Plum Tree photography and of course the Carnival Committee for making it happen."

Pershore Carnival will take place on Monday, May 29.
