A NEW youth worker has been hailed as already 'making a real difference.'

Pershore Riverside Youth Centre (PRYC) has recruited Debra Kurs to manage the day to day running of the centre from Merseyside with over 30 years of experience working with young people.

Her career has seen her working with children and teenagers in some of the most deprived areas of Liverpool, and has also included founding her own social enterprise in 2009 to deliver vital services to young women at risk.

She has joined the PRYC following a restructure to ensure it is using its resources efficiently and effectively, and that its target users in Pershore are receiving a service that makes a real difference to their lives.

She said: "It’s very clear that everyone linked with the PRYC is absolutely committed to making it a real credit to the community.

“I want to become much more involved in the lives of the young people of Pershore so that we are able to make positive and important interventions where we are needed.

"We have a lot of local good will, a wonderful facility, and dedicated volunteers, and I’m delighted to be here."

Liz Tucker, chairman of the Board of Trustees said: "She has brought fresh ideas and fresh energy to the organisation.

“Debra is already actively engaging with young people who use the Centre and making a real difference to their lives."

Alex Mellor, the former centre manager, remains closely associated with the centre and is leading on a new social enterprise providing water-based activities on the nearby river.

As well as providing services for the PRYC, Bonkers Activities is also offering summer activity days for 9-16 year olds, stand-up paddle boarding lessons, and sessions tailor made for families. All the information is available at www.bonkersactivities.co.uk.
