MORE than £600 was raised by a church during Christian Aid Week.

Evesham Methodist Church members and collectors organised a host of activities during last week to mark the international fundraiser.

Money was raised by the church during a big breakfast on Sunday (May 21) with Morrisons, The Co-Op, Iceland, Lawrence's Bakery and The Evesham Greengrocers donating food.

More than £200 was raised through donations for the breakfast alone as visitors enjoyed three kinds of cereals, fruit salad, fruit juices, rolls with jam or marmalade and wonderful bread baps with tasty bacon, as well as tea and coffee.

Meanwhile, at All Saints Church a Big Lunch was held on Sunday May 14 and with visitors enjoying a meal with donations from Tesco.

Viv Jones, the local Christian Aid organiser said: "The members and friends of churches in Evesham would like to thank members of the public who gave generously.

"We had an amazing amount of food and I am going around to thank all of the businesses as we could not have asked for anymore from them.

"As a result we hope that more people in the world suffering from natural disasters or in war-torn zones will be able to have access to fresh water, some food for their children and themselves, education and health care, all of which are provided by Christian Aid, as they have done since the Second World War ended in 1945.
