MOST teams saw their rafts collapse into the water during a fun race.

The Vale of Evesham Round Table held their area 23 raft race at the Evesham Rowing Club.

The event, was well attended by local tables including Evesham, Malvern, Pershore, Cirencester, Gloucester and Hereford.

The object of the race was for teams comprising of four participants to navigate across the breadth of the river and back in the quickest possible time using a raft assembled from several barrels and pallets.

The raft race was a fun and highly competitive affair, with most of the teams ending up in the water.

This year’s champions was the newly formed Pershore Round Table, who through some ingenious raft building skills as well as sheer determination made it across the river and back in a rapid time, leaving rival tables flailing in their wake.

Chairman Ian Thorner, said: "We were confident going in, and it was warmer than we expected. I had faith in the lads and knew our guile and cunning would see us through.

"Well worth a mouth full of river water and we’ll be defending our title next year.’’

The winning team received winners medals at the end of the event.
