CALLOUS thieves stole takings from a nursing home and church's fundraising fete.

Hundreds of pounds was taken from an office at Bricklehampton Hall Nursing Home, in Bricklehampton, near Pershore, during the event on Saturday.

The nursing home was holding a fete in the grounds and £400 collected from stalls was then taken to the office.

At about 4pm staff discovered the money was gone.

The event is an annual joint fundraiser for the nursing home and the village church, St Michaels and All Angels on New Road.

Bricklehampton Hall Nursing Home matron Shirley Archer said: "We are really upset about it. Very upset, more than angry at the moment.

"A lot of hard work goes into this event every year. It is not just something that happens in 10 minutes. Staff work really hard and all the residents go around the fete with their families.

"It is a lot of money for us and I don't expect to get it back.

"I have gone public because I want to public to be aware. I have seen something similar has happened - people obviously think this is a good little earner."

She added: "The money was taken from the stalls during the fete and put out of sight, at the end of the fete we discovered it had been taken."
