AN open day will raise funds for a cats protection group and find some of them new homes.

On Sunday, there will be cat merchandise for sale at Evesham Cats Protection, as well as local jams and a traditional tombola.

Branch volunteer, Fran Holder said: "We are inviting people to come along, who may be interested in having a cat or who would like to see what we do.

"There are many cats and kittens who are needing homes all year, however we have a few cats that have been with us sometime and we are hoping by having a special event they will find a new home.

"We are also hoping to encourage people to home a cat from a local rescue centre where the cats have had a health check, have had flea and worm treatments, microchipped and neutered when old enough.

"Unfortunately we have had heard many upsetting stories where kitten have been acquired from social media sites that have been unwell and sadly not survived."

The centre is based at 95 Pitchers Hill, in Wickhamford, with the open day running from 11am until 3pm on Sunday, with entry free but donations of cat food appreciated.

Parking is limited but Evesham Dogs Trust are allowing the cats protection to use their field near the rescue to park, which will be sign posted.
