A CONTROVERSIAL plan for 220 new homes has been delayed once more.

Hallam Land Management has applied to build the homes and a care home on land off Boat Lane, provoking a series of comments in support and in objection on Wychavon District Council's planning website with the majority of the commenters against the plan.

The developers submitted plans in December 2016, but the planning committee have yet to review them.

The application, which has been delayed three times, has seen criticisms that it would lead to even more gridlock and that the care units are unnecessary.

It was due to go before the planning committee on Thursday September 21, but it has once again been put back.

One objector, Carole Vizor said on the planning website: "It is unbelievable that this development is even being considered by the planning department when deliberation is given to the problems already existing in Evesham with regard to traffic and infrastructure."

Harry Flanagan added: "The amount of construction on this plot of land will not only be a blot on the landscape of Evesham town but will also increase the already overloaded traffic on Abbey Road which at certain times of the day is already impossible to drive through.

"At the moment this is curtailing the ability of people to travel within Evesham and this is also deterring people from travelling into Evesham whether as tourists or shoppers and thus ensuring that money that would have been spent in Evesham is going elsewhere."

In support, resident Hazel Townley said: "I have lived in Evesham since birth and I have seen many housing developments.

"I am pleased to see open space on this plan and I hope this is implemented.

"We need more homes and building within the bypass is a sensible use of the land."
