THE 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force will be celebrated in Evesham.

The air force was formed on April 1 1918 by the joining together of the Royal Naval Air Service and the Royal Flying Corps.

The Wales, Midland and South Western Area of the Royal Air Forces Association, the charity that supports the RAF family, is marking this anniversary throughout 2018 .

Tokens representing the third founding components of the RAF are travelling from branch to branch throughout the area and the token representing Major General Hugh Trenchard will be arriving at Evesham Market Place on Sunday May 27 at 2pm by car.

The token will be met by the Evesham mayor Cllr Richard Jones.

After a short stay with the branch the token will depart for Kidderminster by a Silver Sports Car leaving Evesham High Street on Sunday June 3 at 10am and passing through Hampton and Pershore on its way.

The token will be carried by Jeff Brereton, 97, veteran of the Battle of Britain and Second World War and vice chair of the Royal Air Forces Association Evesham branch.
