A MAN who led plans to install flood defences in an Evesham street has retired.

Following major floods in the late 1990s and early 2000s in which the Waterside properties in Evesham were flooded Ron Briggs, now 88, led efforts to build a flood defence wall for these properties.

This was a large building project and took months of research and design before work could commence.

Mr Briggs, a retired chartered engineer with a construction company in Stratford upon Avon, oversaw the project flood wall which has been a huge success in years since and he has acted as chairman of the Waterside Flood Defence team which he established with his neighbours.

He has now retired and handed over his role.

Mr Briggs had a surprise gathering of his Waterside residents, in his back garden where he was presented with a gift stone bird table and card.
