ASPARAGUS is coming to the aid of the only surviving village band in Worcestershire.

Bretforton Silver Band, now in its 123rd year, is in need of a new band room to house their growing number of young players.

On Sunday May 27, the village will come together at the Fleece Inn to help raise funds for the band by auctioning an exhibition bundle of asparagus.

John Wood, band conductor said, the warm sunshine and rain during April will make this a vintage year for asparagus.

Highlight of the evening will be the auction of an exhibition bundle or ‘hundred’ of asparagus which actually contains 120 buds, much like a baker’s dozen.
