HIGH flyers from across the country took part in Bidford Gliding Club’s first ever two-seater gliding challenge.

The week-long competition finished on Sunday (August 9) and is the first of its kind to be run by the club in its 40-year history.

The winning team was Bob Starmer of Crowle in Worcestershire and Derek Piggott of London, who is one of Britain’s best known glider pilots and instructors.

Now aged 86, Mr Piggott has appeared as a stunt glider in films including Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines and The Blue Max.

The pair went away with the Two-Seater Challenge 2009 cup and a bottle of champagne.
