Sex shop appeals shutters decision

THE Taboo sex shop on Port Street has appealed against an enforcement notice to have its metal night shutters removed for installing them without planning consent.

The shop, located at 32 Port Street, is in the Evesham Conservation Area, meaning shop fronts are a primary part of the council’s Townscape Heritage Initiative.

Some councillors were sympathetic during a development control committee meeting on Thursday where this issue was discussed.

Coun Judy Pearce said: “I hope they win their appeal”, while design champion, Coun Roma Kirke, said: “I can well understand why they require shutters. I have mixed feelings about it.”

But Coun Wendy Dyke countered: “We have got to make a stand on this. Port Street is coming up, there are new shops opening and if we are not careful a lot of shops will want shutters.”

Shame West Mercia don't do a better job then the shutters might not be needed... these people just want to keep their shop safe, maybe the councillers should address the root of the problem, the useless Evesham police??

"Port Street is coming up, there are new shops opening"... ???? You mean new Polish food shops?

Fine... if you call sex shops and polish food shops an improvement to the area. Shutters are not going to make much of a difference to the street.

Tony Owner of Taboo.
This is about having a level playing field in a conservation area. There are a number of shops in Port St with the same style of shutters as mine who operate daily without pressure from Wychavon Planning Department, without the threat of enforcement and the threat of prosecution. On this basis, is it more about me and what l do for a living or is it genunue. l know my view..
