THE Pershore Ladies Guild have presented almost £2,000 to the Help for Heroes charity after a year of fundraising.
The charity’s county coordinator, Major Ian Baldry, collected a cheque for £1,960 which had been raised through a series of raffles at monthly meetings, coffee mornings, and an afternoon tea and lunch function.
The Guild’s entertainment group, The Guilded Lilies, have also given several performances in aid of the charity.
Major Baldry thanked members for their “magnificent effort” and took the opportunity to explain how their donated money will be used.
He said: “To date Help for Heroes has raised £41 million in just over 28 months. Of the money raised, more than £34 million has already been made available through capped grants to registered charities or organisations providing care or services consistent with the objectives of the charity.
“This has included the new hydro swimming pool plus physiotherapy facilities at Headley Court, in Surrey, and about £20 million has been raised to help fund new Personnel Recovery Centres.
“The first fully comprehensive PRC is planned for Colchester to open in the spring of 2011, with further centres opening soon after in Catterick and Tidworth.
“Money that has been donated by the public to Help for Heroes will fund the building of the centres and finance the individual recovery programme of those who can no longer remain in the Armed Forces.”
