A PAEDOPHILE accountant has been given permission by a judge to have social access to the internet – but only on public library computers.
Eric Butler-Henderson, aged 61, of The Old Thatch, Stanway, has served two recent jail terms for child porn offences and has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
He is also subject to a lifetime sexual offences prevention order which bars him from using computers or the internet except for work or business purposes.
However, a judge at Gloucester Crown Court relaxed the rule when Butler-Henderson applied to be allowed to access the internet to prepare for his planned move to Australia.
“I don’t need my own computer and I don’t intend to get one,” he told the court.
“I just need access through the public library.
“I am returning to Australia in the next three months and I need to research properties to rent, sort out my pension credit transfer and send and receive emails from my daughter and son,” he said.
The police officer in the case reluctantly said he did not object to a variation of the order.
