MYXOMATOSIS, the killer rabbit disease, returned to the Vale of Evesham 30 years ago.
Talking to the Journal, an Evesham vet warned readers that the results could be disastrous for owners of pet rabbits.
The report of 1979 said: “He advised vaccination against myxomatosis, not only to stop the pets from dying a ‘horrible death’ but also to guard against the disease being spread to commercial breeders.
“Myxomatosis, a disease introduced into Britain in the mid-1950s almost wiped out the wild rabbit population.
“He said that the disease is carried by the rabbit flea and it was possible that a wild rabbit had got into the garden at Four Pools.”
