RESIDENTS in Pershore leant their voices to a campaign calling on the government to veto a deal which some fear will lead to the privatisation of the NHS.

More than 100 homes in the town displayed satirical ‘Cameron & Hunt’ estate agency boards in front of their homes on Tuesday, March 3 as part of a campaign asking the Prime Minister to exclude the NHS from the Transatlantic Trade Investment Partnership.

One of the residents taking part in the campaign, Michael Bunch of Mayfield Road said: “My care from the NHS has always been good, but I’m worried about privatisation because look at the mess that it’s made of our railways.

“We don’t want to have the same disaster happen to our health service.”

Neighbour Sue Nutting of Station Road said: “The NHS is an old institution that should be protected and remain free at the point of need.”

The proposed agreement – also known as TTIP – would allow free trade between the European Union and the United States, which some have said will increase the power of corporations while reducing the UK government’s ability to prevent the privatisation of the NHS.
